In-Laws

My in-laws do not understand the concept of waiting until I am awake to be as loud as possible.

Loud hammering, from 9 AM to about 10:30. Sleepy now.

Birthdays

Happy birthday today to my little brother, and also to my bachelor's degree in computer science.

General Stupidity

I just got a bill for 25 cents in the mail from my insurance company.

Stamps cost how much, again?

Lunch

Egg, sunny-side-up, on toast, with feta, sour cream, and Arizona Gunslinger sauce.

Productivity

Welp, made some decsions on the house, did some freelance work for actual money (well, sort of -- maybe enough for a tank of gas), hit the elliptical and got one episode less behind on The Walking Dead. Not bad for a Friday.

Razors: The Final Tally

  • Nice Clean Shave: Merkur, Blue bird, Bic, Astra
  • Cut the Hell Out My Face: Shark, Gillette, Feather

Not looking forward to having to finish off those packs of Shark, Gillette and Feather, but so it goes.

Putting the "Turd" in "Turducken"

Well, not really, it came out okay.

But I finally decided to try my hand at beer battering, and a word of advice:

If you find a recipe that suggests equal amounts of flour and beer, it should be labeled pancake batter, not the kind of batter you put on vegetables to fry them in.

Great Opening Titles: Gravity Falls

I saw this cartoon getting rave reviews as the latest in the trend of Adventure Time and My Little Pony -- a cartoon for kids with surreal humor that appeals to adults.

It had me at hello.

Hello.

Seriously, it's great. It's funny, it gives an immediate sense of the characters, the atmosphere, and the wacky world. The theme song conveys a sense of mystery and weirdness.

Also: there's a picture of Bat-Boy.

I knew this show was going to be great before the opening titles were over. And that's exactly what opening titles are for.

BTW I've added a little update to the bottom of Monday's Bissette/Ditko post. Bissette's posted a followup which includes some feedback from Craig Yoe, and there's some great insight in the comments besides.

Updated Favorite Searches. If there are two essential truths you should always remember, they are these: alan moore still complaining and popeye bad ass. Words to live by, my friends. Words to live by.

Playing: Oh God, you'd think I have ADD or something. Recently I have played Crackdown, Last Story, Xenoblade, Sonic 2 Delta, and Mottzilla's patch for BS Zelda. One of these days I'll probably even share some thoughts on each of them.
