Yup, I'm back from my first entire month's absence...I'm sure Sarrett's peeing his pants.
Anyway, the majority of my absence has been due to my Sonic '01 BBS. Which kicks ass. If you haven't gone there already, do. And in case you need help, I've created the greatest of boons to mankind: Thad's Quick and Dirty Guide To Getting On His BBS. ...Of course, it assumes you have Windows, so if you have a Mac, you're out of luck, and if you have Linux, well, why the hell do you need help figuring out how to use Telnet?!
Anyhow, I've updated the Links Page with a Usurper theme, and added a link to hplovecraft.com. ...For those of you who remember Steve putting up the same link right before taking his site down, let me set the record straight: I told him about it.
Next week is spring break. That means that I am extremely unlikely to update again for awhile. ...But I will be on my BBS on a regular basis...provided it doesn't crash while I'm gone.
Tweaked my BBS guide slightly. Sadly, I decided I should probably also come up with some actual content in the process, so there's a new Stream.
Well, this wasn't going to be a large update anyway, but it's especially small now because I've just found out my server isn't working. Mmmm, irony.
Anyhow, I added a whole section devoted to my BBS, and...that's about it. (I also updated the BBS guide to show Terra's redirect.) (Update 03.11.16: There's also a Life from this date which I must've forgotten to link.)
The way it's looking, I'll probably wind up doing another two-month archive thing. Ho hum.
At any rate, sorry for updating so seldom and with so little, especially in an era that has left us without a Sharkey and with everyone else updating seldom and with little, but, well, them's the breaks. You can still find me on #finalfight and on my BBS more or less daily.
No content to speak of, but I added an extremely silly new intro. More extremely silly new things to come as I slack off from my massive workload and gradually go completely nuts. Stay tuned.

That's right, you poor soul...I'm here today to rant about school violence. Don't blame me. Blame yourself or God.
Note to any law-enforcement officials stumbling across my page: The above is a quote from the hokily-translated video game Final Fantasy Tactics, and not a sign that I am starting a cult or suggesting in any way that God wants people mutilating their classmates. Thank you.
Hi there. Welcome. Last week, while I was on spring break, wasting my time with family when I should have been in Lake Havasu City, something happened. Something stupid, annoying, and...deadly.
Another high school kid shot up some classmates.
The news media, fueled by viewers' morbid fascination, spent a considerable amount of time on the subject and, I can only assume after three days of not watching the news, still are. This is considerably more airtime than they have given piddly, unimportant subjects like flagrant civil rights violations on behalf of major-party presidential candidates in the past.
Why is that? Because the public cares? The public fucking cares, all right. It cares so goddamn much that members of it perpetrate copycat crimes across the nation every fucking time the newsmedia overplay a story like this. I'm not, by any means, suggesting that the news media keep the public in the dark (although, based on my observations, it is their job), I'm just saying that you can run a story of that caliber once and Lord knows everyone will hear about it.
What I find most disturbing about the spin the press has given the Santana shooting, however, is this business about "There is no such thing as a joke in this context; if any of your friends says anything about committing a violent act, inform the authorities immediately." Ummmm...what?! Fuck that. Every goddamn high school student in America makes a crack now and then about perpetrating violent acts on students and faculty. All this "rat out your friends if they try to let off steam" bullshit can only serve to fuel the illegal and immoral prosecution of people who try to cope with stress through the use of humor, simultaneously causing other frustrated students to mistrust their friends and keep their aggression pent-up...not only not ending school violence, but probably increasing it.
Granted, in the Santana case, it seems like his friends probably should've talked to somebody...but it was an honest mistake. Those guys certainly must've felt plenty like shit without the news media essentially holding them responsible for the whole mess. Can you honestly say that, if your friend, who you trusted, who you thought you knew, cracked a joke about shooting up his classmates and then said, "Nah, I'm just kiddin'," you'd call the cops on his ass? If you can, then you're one cold-hearted bastard.
Who knows, maybe I'd understand turning classmates in to the authorities of our legal system weren't so fucked-up. You know, if, like, teens who showed signs of frustration, anger, and instability were given counseling by competent people instead of getting thrown in jail.
And this business of trying kids as adults? That's evil. Most criminals over the age of 18 aren't fully mentally developed, for God's sake. But hell, our justice system is built on punishment, not redemption, and we're so incapable of dealing properly with the mentally ill that we need Tipper Gore to tell us how to do it. Our prisons are already overcrowded with poor bastards getting assraped for smoking marijuana or stealing packs of batteries. Hell, what's harm could it do to throw in a few fucked-up, mentally unstable teenagers who shot up their classmates (or conspired to shoot up their classmates)?
God bless America.
