Thad's Quick and Dirty Guide To Getting On His BBS



1.
Open HyperTerminal.  I hate to admit it, but of the terminals I've used, it works best with my BBS.

It might be in your Accessories group; if not, try to run "c:\program files\accessories\HyperTerminal".

If it's not there, you probably don't have it; you can try to install it off your Windows installation disk, but you're probably better looking for it on http://download.cnet.com/ .  Don't worry about all that jazz about it being shareware; that only applies to business use.



2.
Set up your connection.

Call it whatever you want, choose whatever icon you want.

When the "Connect to" window pops up, change "Connect using..." to "TCP/IP (Winsock)".  (If it doesn't show up, you've got a really hold version of HypterTerminal.  Get a new one from http://download.cnet.com/ .)

Enter sonic.pyoko.org as your connection.



3.
Check your settings.

Go to File->Properties and hit the Settings tab.  Click on the bar under "Emulation:" and select "ANSI".

Go to View->Font and increase the fontsize if you want.



4.
Register.

At the "NN:" prompt, type "New".

Answer all the stupid questions.  I apologize for the really inane ones; evidently I can't turn them off.



5.
Interact.

Post messages as you like on the boards.

Cover people with goopy slime in the chat area.

Play some of my online games (under External Programs if you use the Synchronet Classic console).  LORD (Legend Of the Red Dragon) and Usurper are a lot of fun.

LORD would be better with more female players.

Usurper you might have some trouble in to start; the trick is to find low-level people in the dorms and steal money from them until you can afford a good supply of armor.
